In the fog of the world

June 21st, 2009

It’s no shit that I love Death in June. To some people that’s a real problem (first world one at that), for obvious controversial reasons. We won’t get into that. It’s late, I am tired and fading out. However, I can’t resist the urge to post the two tracks I have been listening to obsessively the past few days, aside from the rest of DIJ that I never tire of. Ethereal “Hail! The White Grain” being from 1987’s Brown Book and soul touching “Holy Water” as the B side from the 1982 State Laughter single. My favorite Brown Book track “To Drown A Rose” previously included in this post. This may be an indication of my subsconcious thoughts.

I absolutely adore you! Ugh. Death in June’s one of my biggest music obsessions in life, even though I haven’t had a reunion with the band for awhile. My first letter to you might have given you a “cluesy” (Venture Bros.).

When I get on a Di6 kick, lock the doors, light a candle, and get goosebumps. I’m mostly embarrassed by my obsession with them, because: 1) their controversy, even though it’s quickly refuted by Douglas P. being unapologetically gay, which couldn’t be more of an oxymoron paired with radical right fascism; 2) going back to the controversy can trivialize their music and make Douglas P. seem like a juvenile dork.

“Hail! The White Grain” is sung by Douglas P.
“Holy Water” is by Tony Wakeford, I think, but maybe it’s Patrick Leagas? Can’t remember.

I’m a big fan of Tony Wakeford’s band, Sol Invictus, as well, which is what got me into Death in June. My friend randomly took me to see Sol Invictus in concert for my birthday in Hollywood around 8 years ago and I was instantly hooked into the World Serpent family. I hadn’t seen the subtle brilliance of Sol Invictus’ performance, since I first got into… I’m scared to say, since you seem to think they’re overplayed and overloved… Joy Division (don’t hate me, I liked them back when it wasn’t so cool).

I’ve seen Death in June three times, as far as I can remember. Twice in L.A. and once in S.F. They love the west coast, thankfully. Their last show, they said it was their last. I hope not! I miss them. I can go on forever about them and will save my craziest store for another time.

I agree with what you said about controversy. DIJ + Felt do things to me that I cannot put into words.

Need more Sol Invictus. Send me some!

I don’t know about Felt. I’ll have to continue to scour your old posts, in hopes of finding some of their songs. I’ll rip my Sol Invictus CDs and get some stuff to you. There’s one album, in particular, that’ll blow you away.
